Dr. Vic Oyas, an active DAUSA member and volunteer of past medical misions, has been the unanimous choice of being this year’s Fiesta Hermano Mayor. He will induct the newly elected DAUSA officers for 2001 – 2003 during the DAUSA Dinner Dance on Sept. 8, 2001 in Torrance, CA.
Although not a native-born Danawanon, Dr. Vic Oyas, whose parents are native of Catmon, need not be declared an adopted son of Danao, for he is heart and soul a Danawanon.

There is not a bit of doubt Dungguan Elementary School pupils will be most computer literate among all barrio public schools throughout the country. Thanks to Joe Campo whose heart is bigger than Texas.
DAUSA Board of Director Joe Campo of Freeport, Texas, pioneered the association’s Adopt-a-School Project and started the project in the barrio where he was born and raised.

A day in the life . . . at Grade III, Section 1
A plate of corn grits with buwad or tinabal or inununan (fish) for breakfast would not last till noon. We had to eat again by mid-morning at recess. If we didn’t, we would be starving before the last period.
While in third grade, five of us were in school, two in college, one high school and another in sixth grade, so it was somewhat a struggle to squeeze a 5¢ ‘baon’ from my Tatay each day.

To be called a ‘cabo’ in Danao can be unflattering, meaning vote-buying pagador or goons, but in Los Angeles County, they are virtuous men and women whose hearts bleed for their less fortunate brothers and sisters back home in Danao City.
DAUSA Cabos are taking the lead to reach out and make a difference.

There were no tricycles or jeepneys in Danao when I was in third grade.
Only three or four families had a car. In 1959 even Danao’s medical doctors could not afford to buy a car. Drs. Laude, Cola or Tining Canga made their house calls in bicycles.
